ATTRACTIONS

"First Monday"
Shopping is a regular tourist attraction. Besides the country's only unclaimed baggage store, Scottsboro offers Trade Day, a 125-year-old tradition. Open on the first Monday of each month - and the preceding weekend - Trade Day draws hundreds of shoppers to the downtown Scottsboro Square and is considered one of the top 20 events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.

Recreation

Fishing:  Lake Guntersville is Alabama’s largest lake (69,000 acres). It was created in 1938 when the Tennessee Valley Authority dammed portions of the Tennessee River  to provide  flood control and  low cost hydroelectric power for an area to be known as the Tennessee Valley .It starts up near Chattanooga, Tennessee, passes thru Scottsboro  to the dam, just a few miles from Guntersville, Alabama (approximately 82 miles). Today, Lake Guntersville is nationally known for largemouth bass and has been the site of the National Bass Master’s Tournament. Additionally, other favorite catches include: smallmouth bass, spotted bass, white crappie, black crappie, bluegill, shellcracker, longear sunfish, green sunfish, blue catfish, channel catfish, flathead catfish, bullhead catfish, sauger, hybrid bass and white bass. Rough fish include spotted gar, longnose gar, freshwater drum, carp and buffalo. Baitfish are skipjack herring, gizzard shad, threadfin shad, yellowtail shad and several species of minnows. The lake also has a large supply of crawfish. For license fee schedules see License fees.

Hunting:  We have 4 Major and many private hunting areas. For a listing of the major Hunting seasons click here  Hunting is great in Jackson County with plentiful Deer, Turkey Duck, Geese, Dove Rabbit, Squirrel, Quail and more. For Hunting Fee schedules see Hunting Fees.

Boating: is a great ways to spend time on the water. There are many Docking Facilities available in Jackson County, Goosepond Colony & Jackson County Park are among the best. Fishing is world class, and skiing on the lake in and around Scottsboro is simply great.

Caving: Jackson County is home to nearly 1500 charted caves, over half of all the caves in the state. Some are easy to negotiate, but others are for experienced spelunkers only. Check with our Chamber of Commerce for more information.
